Our Vision
The Challenges We Face
From the moment we step into this world, food is one of the most critical resources we need to manage. As children, we typically just ate whatever we were given, a joyful ignorance that let us focus on the things that were important to us at the time. As we age, we find that managing our food supply is not as trivial as it once seemed.
Rising Food Prices
Food prices in Canada are 27% higher than they were just five years ago. A family of four is expected to spend $17,572 on food in 2026 — nearly $1,000 more than last year. Grocery prices rose 3.5% in 2025 while beef alone climbed 13.5%, and forecasts show another 4–6% increase ahead.

Time Investment
Canadians spend an average of 91 minutes per day on food-related activities — yet over half feel forced to cut corners, spending 15 minutes or less on dinner due to time pressure. Despite 48% of Canadians intending to meal plan more carefully, only 35% consistently follow dietary guidelines. The gap between intention and action is where hours and dollars are lost.

Food Quality
In 2024, 25.5% of Canadians — roughly 10 million people, including 2.5 million children — lived in food-insecure households, a record high. Despite this, 68% of Canadians prioritize healthy, locally sourced food when dining out, and 47% have shifted toward eating more at home to regain control over quality and cost. The desire to eat better is clear. What's missing is the system to make it easy.

Food Waste
In Canada, the average household throws away 140 kilograms of food per year — 63% of which could have been eaten. That costs Canadian households over $1,300 annually in avoidable waste. Nationally, 46.5% of all food produced in Canada is wasted, with an avoidable portion valued at $58 billion — equivalent to groceries for 3.7 million families.

Current Solutions Fall Short
Existing services offer only partial solutions to these interconnected challenges.
For all of these challenges, there have been partial solutions. Things like having groceries delivered, HelloFresh, Instacart, etc. While these offer partial solutions to some of these problems, none of them fully solve the problem, and they are incompatible as far as services go. Add on expensive fees, delivery costs, and HelloFresh Canada charges $12–15 per serving. Annona's optimized planning and price intelligence reduces this cost significantly by leveraging store flyers, pantry inventory, and waste reduction — while giving you full control over your menu.
